Lewis County
Residential Health Care Facility Honors LPN Graduates
 LOWVILLE, NY─ The Lewis County
Residential Health Care Facility (RHCF) recently honored the first class of
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) graduates. The graduates were first
celebrated at a commencement ceremony at the Hilton Garden Inn, Watertown,
NY, on June 27th, followed by a special event at the RHCF
facility in Lowville. Staff and residents honored the students for their
hard work and dedication.
“LCHS identified
a need for LPNs in the workforce and was proud to partner with
Jefferson/Lewis BOCES and the Caring Gene/Iroquois Health Association
Healthcare Career Pathways Initiative to bring back the LPN program in
Lewis County,” stated Gerald R. Cayer, Chief Executive Officer at Lewis
County Health System. “The collaborative efforts took the work of
many and included support to rebuild the clinical lab at the Howard G.
Sackett Center in Glenfield, teaming up to recruit students, many of whom
were LCHS employees who were motivated to elevate their future
careers.”
The 10-month
program required students to complete intensive classroom study, and the
class observed and rotated in clinical areas at Lewis County Health System
and throughout the Residential Health Care Facility. Students gained
hands-on experience to complement the program’s academic requirements.
Students also engaged in clinical simulation laboratories to apply
practical skills.
With this
milestone completed, the graduates are now eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN
exam to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). LCHS is honored to welcome
the following students who have accepted positions at the Lewis County
Residential Health Care Facility: Kelly Beckmann, Brooklyn Cobb, Jamie
Gage, Tahlia Garcia, Adriana Ross, and Phil Snow. Two students from the
Watertown BOCES program will also be joining the team. Several students
from the Practical Nursing class were honored with special awards for their
upbeat attitude, exceptional clinical performance, leadership in nursing,
and true spirit of nursing.
Jesica Nichols,
RN, Clinical Educator for Long Term Care, praised the graduates for their
accomplishments and stated, “The RHCF team is here to support you in your
ongoing pursuit of being the best nurse you can be as you care for
residents and serve your community.”
