Obituary: Kevin L. Turck, 90, Taveres, FL/Lowville

Kevin L. Turck
TAVARES, FL/LOWVILLE, NY- On February 4,
2025, surrounded by his children, the Lord called Kevin L. Turck, 90, to
his heavenly home after a short illness at his home in Tavares, Florida.
Born November 10,
1934, a son of John and Christine Kampney Turck, he attended Fr. Leo Memorial School in Croghan, after
which he began a very full and adventurous life.
Kevin enlisted in
the US Army in March of 1956 and received basic training in Fort Dix, NJ
for eight weeks, and for another eight weeks attended Military Police
School in Fort Gordon, GA. He then was deployed to Europe aboard The USNS
General William O. Darby and served with the 793rd Military
Police Battalion from July 4, 1956, until he was honorably discharged in March, 1960. While stationed in Germany, Kevin met and
married the love of his life, Elfriede Fleischmann, on August 12, 1958.
Kevin boarded a ship to return to the United States with his wife and three
oldest children born in Germany.
Kevin was
employed by AMF for one day before starting his career at Payne & Jones
papermill in Lowville, NY, which later became Boise Cascade. He started as
a back tender for ten years before being promoted to a supervisory position
until his retirement at 55 years old on December 31, 1989. After retirement
Kevin and Friede became snowbirds, wintering in a retirement community in
Tavares, FL, where he was very active by putting his carpentry skills to
use as he helped with building and maintenance of their bridges as well as putting
in wells for the neighborhood among other activities. During the warmer
months he looked forward to traveling to the home he built on Number Four
Road in Watson.
Throughout his
life, Kevin was a successful entrepreneur and investor, especially with his
rental properties. As a natural born carpenter, he painted and remodeled
homes, often with his dad or brother. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and
trapping and doing whatever he could to support his large family who he loved dearly. He was a great husband, dad,
papa, great papa, uncle, brother and friend.
Kevin is survived
by his children including four sons, John Turck, Houston TX, Bill Turck,
Tavares, FL, Kevin Turck, Orlando, FL and Karl (Judy Hollowell) Turck,
Waterloo, NY, and three daughters, Diane (Pat) Mahar, Copenhagen, NY,
Monika Turck-Harra, and Kim (Brad) Peterson, both of Watertown, NY;
grandchildren Jonathan and Sofie Turck, Matthew, Stephen and Sarah Mahar,
Monica Turck Stewart, Christopher Turck, Jorden Harra Skelly, Dylan and
Makala Harra, Derek and Ryan Peterson, Katrina Peterson Kerr; thirteen
great grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Diane Turck Mullin, a
brother Joseph (Mary) Turck, and a sister-in-law Monica Schwarzer, Germany,
and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was reunited
with his wife Elfriede Fleischmann Turck, his son Eric Turck, grandsons
Michael Mahar and Adam Turck, son and daughter in-law Michael Harra and
Lori Turck, his parents, brothers and their spouses Jack (Shirley), David
(Bessie), Thomas (Mary), Allyn (Doris), In-laws Fay Mullin, Karl
Fleischmann, Klaus Schwartzer, Irmgard (Christel) Lachenschmid
and Edith (Richard) Kohlbauer, his best friend, since childhood, Fred
Anderson, and many other friends and family.
A Memorial
Service and Funeral Mass will be held on July 15, 2025
at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J.
Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in St.
Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan. A funeral luncheon will follow in St.
Stephen’s Church Social Hall.
There will be no
calling hours.
