AI-generated content may be incorrect.GLENFIELD - Frederick C. Walter, 81, died Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, under the care of his family, friends, and Hospice.

 

Fred was born on April 18, 1944 in Lowville the son of the late Franklin Clark and Dorothy Estelle (Rowsam) Walter who owned Walter’s Store in Lowville. He was a Lowville Academy and Central School graduate, Class of 1962. Fred graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969, as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate, during the Vietnam War. Fred served three tours, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/Bronze Service Star, and Vietnam Campaign Medal W/Device.

 

Fred was a beauty sales consultant for beauty salons across the North Country.

 

He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was an avid boxing fan, and a lifetime member of the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota. Each year, Fred spent the first weekend of June meeting and enjoying the company of all “The Boxing Greats” and fans during the International Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend. Fred always followed local high school sports, and enjoyed watching collegiate and professional sports. Fred was a lifelong Yankee’s fan. The Connecticut girls UCONN Huskies basketball team, quickly became a favorite of Fred’s in 2012 due to the addition of Syracuse Star, Breanna Stewart. In recent years, Fred could be found enjoying a meal and living it up with his friends at Rusty P’s Bar and Grill.

 

Calling hours for family and friends will be on Sunday, June 29th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Sundquist Funeral Home, followed by a military burial in West Lowville Cemetery at 1:30pm. Family and friendsare invited to, A Celebration of Life, which will be held at Rusty P’s following the burial.
