She graduated from Syracuse Central High School in 1959. Throughout her childhood, Dorothy participated in the Post 41 American Legion Junior Drum and Bugle Corp as a majorette and then as a drum major. Post high school, Dorothy attended IBM school. She was employed by General Electric in Syracuse where she met the love of her life, William M. Gracey.

They married on June 23, 1962, at St. John the Evangelist Church, Syracuse. They built a life together on Grace-Way Farm raising their four children, Deborah, David, Michael and Christina. Dorothy spent her days being a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very selfless, never putting her own needs above others. She was always there, willing to help and support. When in her presence, Dorothy made each and everyone feel loved and extra special. Whether it was a basket of your favorite treats, an adventurous trip to town, or a new crazy idea to try, Mom (“Grannie”) made your time with her memorable and cherished.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, William, of 63 years, her four children: Deborah (Lloyd) Richardson, David (Kim) Gracey, Michael Gracey, and Christina (Marc) Laribee. She is loved by 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Cynthia (Joe) Hickey, Eric (Katie) Richardson and their children Mason and Cora, Jeremy (Laura) Gracey and their children Anna and Wesley, Jessica Gracey, Dylan (Emma) Gracey and their children Winston and Wade, Aliya Gracey, Taren Gracey, Alyssa (Tyler) Bray, Caden (Alexis) Laribee, Sierra (Caleb) Zehr and their child Asa, Shayna Laribee, Merric Laribee, and Maya Laribee. She is also remembered by several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Dorothy is pre-deceased by her parents, Robert and Agnes Mosher (a Gold Star Mother), and her seven brothers, James, Francis, Robert, Raymond, William, John and Louis. Being the youngest, Dorothy was her brothers’ pride and joy. As she described many times, “Nobody dared to bother the Mosher boys’ baby sister.”

Dorothy worked alongside William for over 40 years. They began farming in 1969, building Grace-Way Farm in Denmark, NY. While raising her children she participated in all aspects of farm life from tilling land to feeding and caring for animals, with the exception of milking cows, which was good advice given by her father-in-law, Levi Gracey. Dorothy loved gardening and preserving her harvests to have throughout the coming year. This tradition was passed on as she continued to teach and assist her children and grandchildren for many years.

Dorothy was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan, NY. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Ann’s Church in Castorland, NY.

Dorothy will be deeply missed. Her fun, bold-yet-loving and caring personality and presence made all who encountered her love her.

The family would like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Lewis County Hospice and all our at-home caregivers (Jennifer, Daleena, Erica and Haley) that made it possible for our mom to stay in her home and alongside our dad throughout her final days. Everyone was so caring, loving and respectful to her, dad and our family. We consider each of you as part of our family and you have our utmost respect and love for such an amazing job.

Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Lowville. A funeral mass will be held at St. Stephens Church, Croghan, at 11:00 am on July 3, 2025. Following a graveside service at Sanford Corners Cemetery in Calcium, all are welcome to attend a gathering at Grace-Way Farms on Route 26 in Denmark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Legion Post 41, PO Box 1239 Syracuse NY 13201.
