By: Press Release from New York State Police

State Police investigating fatal crash in the town of Lawrence involving a tractor trailer

On June 19, 2025, at approximately 1:45 p.m., State Police responded to a car-versus-tractor trailer collision, at the intersection of County Route 55 and County Route 54, in the town of Lawrence.

The investigation revealed a tan 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, being operated by 78-year-old Jerry B. Flanders, of Copenhagen, NY, was traveling eastbound on County Route 54, when he failed to yield the right of way, and his vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer, traveling southbound on County Route 55, operated by John S. Sharpe, 43, of Norfolk, NY.

After the vehicles collided, the tractor trailer struck a utility pole, and both vehicles came to a stop in a field on the east shoulder of County Route 55.  Flanders was pronounced deceased on scene.

Sharpe was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
