AI-generated content may be incorrect.LOWVILLE- Thomas “Jigger” Gerow, 79, of Wagner Road, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Carthage Area Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

 

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kristopher and Rebecca Gerow of Castorland; three stepchildren, Daryl and Brigit Lehman of Lowville; Lisa Steiner and her companion Allan Coffey of Castorland, and Dale Lehman of Lowville; ten grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Linda; three siblings, Milton Gerow, Joyce Gerow, and Dolores Ashline; and one sister-in-law, Charlotte “Tiny” Gerow.

Jigger was born on March 8, 1946 in Lowville, a son of the late Leo J. and Madeline M. Schack Gerow.  He graduated from Father Leo Memorial School in 1965 and worked for the Lewis County Highway Department part-time until going to work for AMF in Lowville in 1970, retiring in 2005 after 35 years.  On September 26, 1981 he married Linda M. Zehr at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, a blessed union lasting nearly 40 years until Linda’s passing on August 20, 2021.  After retiring, he worked at Maple Ridge.

 

Thomas enjoyed going to camp, bowling at the Croghan K of C Hall in Croghan and Lewis Lanes, playing cards, socializing, dancing, splitting wood, being outdoors, mowing the lawn, games, and watching his grandchildren’s ball games and sporting events.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan and was a 3rd Degree K of C Member.  He was a member of the Number Four Hunting Club.  Jigger was always willing to help anyone with anything and was awarded as 2025 Volunteer of the Year by Office for the Aging.

 

A funeral Mass will be said at 10:00a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor officiating.  Calling hours will be Monday, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.  A luncheon at St. Stephen’s Parish Hall will immediately follow the burial, all are welcome.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 38 Main Street, Croghan, NY 13367.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
