AI-generated content may be incorrect.LOWVILLE- Audrey S. Schweitzer, 90, passed away on Thursday evening, May 1, 2025 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility where she had resided since March, 2021.

         

She is survived by four children, Randy (Regina) Schweitzer, of Harrisonburg, VA; Cheryl (Robert) Kelly of West Martinsburg; Judy Schweitzer of Honey Brook, PA; Karl (Charlotte) Schweitzer of Croghan; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband, C. “Lewis” Schweitzer, on April 23, 2023; a great grandson, Oliver Lawrence Halbert who passed away on August 8, 2024; and a brother, Clifton Raymond Steiner, who died at birth.

 

Audrey was born on October 13, 1934 in Croghan, a daughter of the late Reuben and Frances Waterman Steiner.   She graduated from Beaver River Central School with the class of 1953.   On October 24, 1953, she married C. “Lewis” Schweitzer at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Beaver Falls, with Rev. Norman Pusey officiating.  They operated Schweitzer’s Sawmill for 10 years, manufacturing cheese boxes and carded wool.  Audrey was a bookkeeper for Farney Feed Service, during the 1970’s and 80’s and a switchboard operator for two years as well.

 

Audrey loved to sew and was an accomplished seamstress.  She loved crafts and along with her husband, sold crafts and maple products at the Watertown Farmers Market for several years.   Mrs. Schweitzer also loved music and gave private piano lessons in her free time.

 

Audrey was a member of First Mennonite Church, New Bremen, where she taught Sunday school for many years.  She was a member of the Tug Hill Quilters and a past 4-H leader.

 

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 5, 2025 at First Mennonite Church of New Bremen with Pastor Ed Steckly, officiating.  A gathering at the church fellowship hall will immediately follow the memorial service, all are welcome.  Burial will be held privately in the church cemetery. There are no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Audrey to First Mennonite Church of New Bremen, P.O. Box 417, Lowville, NY 13367 or to Brookside Senior Living Community Benevolent Fund, 5701 Brookside Circle, Lowville, NY 13367, or Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, Attn, Activities, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

 

Audrey’s family would like to thank the nursing home staff of the 1st and 3rd floor of Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility for their loving care and kindness shown to their mother during her stay.
