LOWVILLE-Virginia Margaret DeCarlo, 96, of Church
Street, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at her home.
A funeral Mass will be said at 1:00 P.M.
on Friday, April 11, 2025 at St. Peter’s Catholic
Church, Lowville, with Rev. John Ojuok officiating. The DeCarlo
family will receive friends beginning at noon on Friday in the back of the
church. A luncheon in the church fellowship hall will follow the
Mass, all are welcome. Any food donations may be brought directly to
the church fellowship hall prior to the Mass. In place of flowers,
contributions may be made in Virginia’s name to Lowville Free Library, 5387
Dayan Street, Lowville, NY 13367 or Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O.
Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367. Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery at a later date to be announced. Arrangements are with Iseneker
Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
Virginia is
survived by her four children, Mary (Randy) Bellinger of Lowville, Paul
(Teresa) DeCarlo of Greenfield, MA, Sara DeCarlo of Lowville, and Nicholas DeCarlo
of Cortland; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad) Lovenduski, Andy Crouse,
Renee (Jonathon) Rose, Andrea (Scott) Simmons, Kyra DeCarlo, Sarah DeCarlo,
Jordan Poirier, and Caitlin (Paul) Neske;13 great-grandchildren; and nieces
and nephews. She is predeceased by a
granddaughter, Stephanie Crouse; and four siblings, Barbara Paragi, Gabriel
Paragi, Joseph Paragi, and Helen Valasky.
Virgina was born
on June 2, 1928 in the Town of Greig, a daughter
of the late Gabriel and Sophie Dragony Paragi. She married Frank DeCarlo who later passed
away on June 22, 1962. Virginia
raised her four children single-handedly, and after they were of school
age, she went to work as a home health aide at
Lewis County Department of Social Services, retiring in 2000.
She was a
communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville.
Virginia loved reading,
knitting, sewing, walking, watching her great-grandchildren’s activities, riding in the side by side with the kids, and swimming.
She volunteered
for Head to Toe, for the American Red Cross blood bank, and for Lewis
County Hospice. Virginia also
dressed dolls at Christmas time at the VFW as Christmas gifts for children.
