Harrisville- Pauline M.
Thomas of the North Shore Rd, passed away peacefully in her home early
Friday morning April 4, 2025 while under hospice
care. Per her wishes services will not be held. A celebration of life will
be held in the future.
Pauline was born April
17, 1946, at Lewis County General Hospital, to John B and Beatrice Morrison
Whitney. Her mother divorced and later married Luther Kaler in 1956; he
adopted her 4 children, Pauline, Laura, Donald and Shirley. Pauline married
Blaine E. Thomas in 1966 followed by the birth of three children, Susan, James
and Jennifer.
She is survived
by a daughter Susan Thomas Alberson of Stratford, OK, a son James Thomas of
Newport, ME, a daughter Jennifer Thomas Beck of Harrisville, NY, 10
grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her
husband, parents, step-father, two sisters, Laura
Whitney Kaler Kloster and Shirley Whitney Kaler Hosmer, and a granddaughter
Gillian Alberson.
Pauline graduated
from Beaver River Central school in 1963. She continued her education at
The Good Samaritan School of Nursing graduating as
a Registered Nurse in 1966. Her first job was at Rochester General
Hospital. After moving to Lewis County, she worked at several area
hospitals; working part time while she raised their children. She then
specialized in Geriatrics. Pauline was employed as the Head Nurse for Lewis
County Residential Health Care Facility, working the 3rd and 4th floor for
many years until changing jobs to Carthage Rehab Center until retirement.
Many friends,
classmates, co-workers, patients, and family found her to be caring,
empathic, witty, and energetic. Over the years, she opened her home to
caring for and helping out family members. She is
also known for her award winning pumpkin pie.
Pauline annually attended the world’s largest yard sale in Warrensburg, NY
from 1988-2021. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and collecting family
history. She even started a few books to consolidate the information
gathered. One specifically she titled, “The Boarding House” telling the
story of all of the family members that had stayed
with them over the years. She will be greatly missed by all those who had
the pleasure of knowing her.
