Boliver, 83, of State Route 812, passed away on Saturday March 1, 2025 at Lewis County General Hospital with his loving
family by his side.
A funeral Mass
will be said at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 6, 2025
at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor
officiating. A luncheon at the
Croghan American Legion will immediately follow the Mass, all are welcome. Any food donations may be taken directly
to the American Legion on Thursday, March 6, 2025
beginning at 9:00 a.m. There are no
calling hours. Spring burial will be
in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan. Arrangements
are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc.,
Lowville. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in Richard’s name may be made to the Lewis County Hospital
Foundation, John and Agnes Teal Comfort Care Room, 7785 N State Street,
Lowville, NY 13367 or to Caring Friends of the Community, P.O. Box 712
Croghan, NY 13327.
He is survived by
his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Frances “Pudge” Boliver; his five children, Jack Boliver of Lowville,
Janet (Carlton) Horvath of Croghan, Jeff (Dana) Boliver of Croghan, Jenny
(Ed) Dziekan of Croghan, and Joel Boliver and his companion Mark Barrile of
Elma, NY; six grandchildren, Dustin Brown, Emmalee Ritz, Shawna Ritz,
Ashlynne (Brett) Czepiel, Matthew Horvath, and Jaime (Devon) Carroll; seven
great-grandchildren, Tanner, Ayden, Quincey Hollman; Jordan and Jadynn
Carroll; and Aubree and Ella Czepiel; four sisters, Millie Monnat of
Castorland, Norma Monnat of Carthage, Dorothy Monnat of Croghan, and Sharon
Sweeney of Carthage; two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Boliver of Croghan and
Karen Smith of Lyons Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, John Alvin
Boliver who died prematurely; a granddaughter, Erin Catherine Ritz, who
died at birth; two brothers, Edward and Gerald Boliver; and four brothers-in-law,
Robert Monnat, Stanley Monnat, Bernard “Chibby”
Monnat, and Glenn Sweeney.
Richard was born
on September 3, 1941 in Lowville, a son of the late Alvin and Erma Kloster Boliver. He attended country school in Indian
River and graduated from Father Leo Memorial School, Croghan, in 1959. Following graduation, he worked for
Climax Manufacturing, Castorland for five years before joining the Laborers
Union #322 in 1965. On September 8,
1962, he married Frances A. Smith at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Indian
River. Richard worked for various
construction companies and retired in 1996.
He was a member of the union for nearly 60 years.
He enjoyed
playing cards, especially euchre and poker, fishing, hunting, trapping,
riding around on the side by side, family gatherings, country music,
carpentry, including building gun cabinets along with other projects for
his family, and some that were donated to benefits, and raising exotic
pheasants and other varieties of birds.
Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his dog Mickey. Richard was always willing to lend a
helping hand to anyone that needed it.
He was a
communicant of St. Stephen’ Catholic Church, Croghan. Richard was a lifetime member of the
Beaver River Fish and Game Club and a member of the Peeler Swamp Hunting
Club, and past member of the Balsam Creek Hunting
Club.
Richard’s family
would like to thank the second-floor staff (East Wing) at Lewis County
General Hospital for their loving care and kindness they gave to Richard.
