 LOWVILLE - Douglas S.
Brodie, 91, died Thursday evening, February 27, 2025 at the East
Road Adult Home.
Doug was born in
Le Roy on November 1, 1933 the son of the late Gordon Thomas and
Mary Elvira (Seward) Brodie. He graduated from LeRoy High School
and went on to Cornell
University to receive
his bachelor’s degree. His career in banking brought him to Lowville where
he worked for National Bank of Northern NY.
After the merger with Key Bank, he became the regional manager working out
of the Watertown
office. In 1991, he was promoted to President of the Northern Region and
later appointed District Administrator of the North
Country. He retired in 1994.
He married Mary
Jane (Mancuso) McElroy on February
18, 1977 in Le Roy at Mercy Grove
Chapel with Rev. William Bigelow, officiating. Doug and Jane made their
home in Lowville. Jane died on October 14, 2010.
He is survived by
his daughter, Jennifer K. and Robert Hanno, his son-in-law, Bob Bush; his
daughter-in-law, Tammy McElroy, his grandchildren, Jason and Heather
McElroy and children, Cameron and Madison; Chelsea and Brian Hilliker and
children, Ivy Jeanne and Leo Brodie; Stacie McElroy; Olivia and Kenneth
Russell and their daughter, Avery; and Isabelle and James Ambalavanar; his two sisters, Barbara (Harry) Lockwood
and family, and Linda (Jon) Edinger and family, and his niece and nephews
from Tom and Lucille.
Doug is
predeceased by his two daughters, Jillanne M. Bush and Colleen R. McElroy,
his son, Robert J. McElroy, and his brother, Thomas (Lucille) Brodie.
He was a devoted
member of the First Presbyterian Church and choir, coached youth league
sports, a Lowville B.P.O.E. Elks and Kiwanis member, a proud
Cornell University alumni and a
member of the Cornell Ag Advisory Board. He and his wife were deeply
dedicated to the preservation of Constable Hall and worked many hours on
the Annual Craft Fair and other fundraisers. A strong supporter of the LACS
sports program, he was a member of the Chain Crew for the Football Program
in his early years and an avid spectator for all LACS sports in his later
years. When he was not supporting his community, Doug enjoyed golfing and
gardening.
Funeral services
will be on Thursday, March 6th at 11:00
am at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Greg Jenkins,
Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours for family and friends will be on
Wednesday, March 5th from 5
to 7:00pm at the
Sundquist Funeral Home.
