Period to Begin Collecting Signatures for Major Party Nominations for Local Positions on the Ballot for 2025 Election Cycle Now Open

Lowville, NY- The 2025 election process is officially underway locally, with today being the first day that interested candidates can begin collecting designating petition signatures for major party nominations for the November 04, 2025 General Election. Completed petitions can then be filed with the Lewis County Board of Elections staring on March 31st through April 3rd. Potential candidates can find the running for office packet for designating petitions on the Lewis County Board of elections website at https://lewiscountyny.gov/public_notices/2025-running-for-office-packet/ or they can be picked up at their office located at 7513 E. State St., Lowville, NY 13367.


Many local positions will be on the ballot this year, including all ten seats on the Lewis County Board of Legislators and four Supreme Court Justice seats for New York’s 5th Judicial District. Below is a breakdown of which positions will be up for election in each of the 17 townships in Lewis County as well as 5 villages with elections:

The 2025 Primary Election, if needed, is scheduled for June 24. The General Election will be held on November 4.

 

Candidates not seeking a major party nomination can begin circulating independent petitions on April 15, with the dates for filing completed independent petitions being May 20-27. For more information on independent petitions contact the Lewis County Board of Elections.
