LCHS Welcomes the First Baby of the New Year
LOWVILLE, NY─ Lewis County
Health System (LCHS) is pleased to announce the arrival of the first baby
born in Lewis County in 2025.
First-time
parents Kaitlin and Jake Tatum of Lowville welcomed a son, Jayce Ryan
Tatum, born on January 6, 2025. Jayce weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and
measured 20 inches long. Dr. Adewale Adegbenro
and the nursing team delivered Jayce at 8:53 pm.
"I had a
great experience, and I am looking forward to spending time with Jayce and
my husband Jake, who is returning home from a deployment assignment,"
Mrs. Tatum stated.
"The doctor
and nurses were terrific. A few nurses even stayed after their shift
because they were excited to welcome my son as the first baby of the new
year."
Brittany Salmon, LCHS Maternity Nurse
Manager, said, "The Maternity team was honored to care for mom and
baby and thrilled to celebrate the special moment with the Tatum
family."
"The
reopening of the Maternity Department in March 2024 gives expectant moms in
Lewis County and surrounding communities the option to deliver their babies
close to home," reflected LCHS Chief Executive Officer Gerald R.
Cayer.
"Lewis
County General Hospital is the only hospital in Lewis County, so it is
important to offer access to women's health and maternity services for the
women of Lewis County and surrounding communities," added Mr. Cayer.
The Lewis County
Women's Health Center is staffed by three OB/GYN physicians: Adewale Adegbenro, MD; Georges Akl, MD; and Daniel Burns, MD;
two family Nurse Practitioners, Danah Ernst and Hali Reid, providing
obstetrical and gynecological care for patients at Lowville's Women's
Health Center. Family practice doctor M. Lynn Pisaniello also provides care
and deliveries for expectant mothers at Lewis County Family Practice,
Lowville, and South Lewis Health Center in Lyons Falls.
"We are so
proud to welcome families back to our hospital and continue providing the
excellent maternity care we are known for," stated Mrs. Salmon, LCHS's
Maternity Nurse Manager. Mrs. Salmon noted that the physicians and nursing
staff welcomed 80 babies in 2024, 43 boys and 37 girls.
The maternity
unit includes private rooms, labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum suites
(LDRPs), a nursery, and a labor lounge. It connects directly to the new
state-of-the-art Surgical Pavilion, which provides easy access and privacy
if a C-section is needed.
