Lowville and Beaver River Choirs Among 5 North
Country Schools Featured in WPBS-TV’s High School Holiday Concert Airing December
22 and 24

WPBS to Feature Five Local North Country High School
Choirs in Heartwarming Holiday Special
WATERTOWN, NY– WPBS-TV is
proud to present the High School Holiday Concert 2024, a festive
celebration of local talent, featuring five talented choirs from the North
Country. The concert will air on Sunday, December 22 at 7:00 pm and
Tuesday, December 24 at 4:00 pm on WPBS-TV.
The concert
showcases the remarkable voices of high school students from Beaver River,
Gouverneur, Lowville, South Jefferson, and Watertown, each performing a mix
of traditional holiday favorites.
Beaver River High
School, under the direction of Choral Director Kendra Virkler and piano
accompaniment by student Isiah Virkler, presents a moving performance of
the wistful “Tis the Time of Yuletide Glee” and a rousing rendition of
“Cool Yule.”
Gouverneur High
School, under the direction of Choral Director Brett Worden, presents an
adult plea to Santa with “Grown-Up Christmas List” and finishes with the
nostalgic “Journey to the Past.”
Lowville Academy, under the
direction of Choral Director Elizabeth Zehr, performs Christmas favorites
“I Saw Three Ships,” with student flutist Ariana Thomas, and “Carol of the
Bells.”
South Jefferson
High School, under the direction of Choral Director Connie Bast, achieves a
modern take on the classic Christmas Carol, “Deck the Hall,” along with a
sentimental rendition of “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.”
Watertown High
School, under the direction of Choral Director Rebecca Rose, performs Pink
Zebra’s arrangement of “The First Noel,” and
presents an energetic adaptation of “Counting Down to Christmas” with student
soloists Abigail King and Andy Merryman.
WPBS extends a
special thank you to Northern Blend Chorus and Stone Presbyterian Church
for generously loaning the station stage performance risers used during the
taping of this memorable holiday event.
