Joe Lawrence Receives 2024 Don Exford Community

The Pratt Northam
Foundation is pleased to announce that in honor of his dedication to serving
Lewis County, Joe Lawrence is the 2024 recipient of the Don Exford
Community Service Award.
A native of Cape
Vincent in Jefferson County, Joe has devoted himself to agriculture and
community development in Lewis County for over a decade, integrating
himself into the community and creating positive and lasting impacts. He
has served on several boards in our community, most notably the Lewis
County IDA, Naturally Lewis, and Lewis County Agricultural Society. Under
his leadership at Lewis County IDA, he spearheaded the creation of a solar
development policy designed to promote sustainable growth on marginal
lands, safeguarding our prime agricultural areas - a policy that has
received recognition at the state level.
Joe’s commitment
to the community is evident through his involvement in youth programs,
including Lewis County Amateur Hockey and the Lowville Youth Soccer
Association. He has dedicated many hours to maintaining the ice rink at
Forest Park Pavilion each year, fundraising to secure new equipment, and
volunteering for the Learn to Skate program. In his role with LYSA, Joe
manages communications and registration logistics each year.
Joe exemplifies
the qualities celebrated by the Don Exford Award, consistently working to
enhance the quality of life in Lewis County, demonstrating persistence in
the face of challenges and a continued commitment to community goals. Joe’s
strategic thinking, passion for development, and willingness to support all
facets of the community – be it economic, youth, or agricultural – make him
a true asset to Lewis County.
Don Exford was
the first Executive Director of the Pratt Northam Foundation and
passionately loved his community, consistently working with others to help
our community thrive. The Pratt Northam Board of Directors agrees that Joe
epitomizes the spirit and intent of this award. It is with great honor they
present Joe Lawrence the 2024 Don Exford Community Service Award.
