Description automatically generatedCARTHAGE- It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard A. Ulrich II, 53, suddenly on Monday morning, November 18, 2024 at Carthage Area Hospital.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Jennifer; two cherished daughters, Grayce Alexander Bryant Ulrich and Lauren Baker Bryant Ulrich; his parents, Richard A. and Mary Jane Mahaffy Ulrich of Boonville; a sister, Deborah Ulrich of Las Vegas, Nevada; his aunt, Dawn M. Ulrich of Saratoga; his father and mother-in-law, Tom and Sandy Bryant of Sackets Harbor; several nieces and nephews.

Richard was born on July 13, 1971, a son of Richard A. and Mary Jane Mahaffy Ulrich. He graduated from Adirondack High School in 1989 and attended Mohawk Valley Community College and graduated from SUNY Canton in 1991 with an AAS in Mortuary Science. Richard worked as a Funeral Director for Trainor Funeral Home in Boonville for 9 years. Richard married Jennifer L. Bryant on May 27, 2000 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lowville. With urging and support from his wife, he went on to pursue what would become a passion for teaching. He graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University and went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from SUNY Oswego. Richard taught Social Studies at Carthage Central School for 24 years. He loved his students.

He took special pride in the Carthage School Bridge Builders Program, a program he cofounded at Carthage High School that promotes and provides opportunity for inclusion for adult persons with disabilities to connect and interact with each other and the world around them.

He loved the Adirondacks and Eighth Lake camping with “Jen and his girls,” hiking, swimming, and boating, their evenings often sitting in front of a campfire. He loved golfing and skiing with his “girls.” He loved anything outdoors, even just working in his yard. Oh, he loved working in his yard. Most of all, he cared deeply about anything that had to do with his home and his family and a very spoiled chocolate lab named Jeannette.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Carthage Elks Lodge. Tribute speeches begin at 1 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations/checks can be made out to: The Carthage Bridge Builders in C/O Wendy LaFave, and mail to Carthage High School, 36500 State Route 26, Carthage, NY 13619.

Condolences may be shared with Richard's family at www.isenekerfuneralhome.com
