Erma E. André
LOWVILLE-
Erma
E. André, 93, formerly of Cardinal Lane, passed away at Lewis County
Residential Health Care Facility on Tuesday morning, November 5, 2024.
She is survived by
three children, James (Terri) André of Kennewick, WA, Kelley Wasicek (significant
other Dave Stalder) of Pittsburgh, PA; Lee (Diane) André of Wilmington, NC;
three grandchildren, Tristen André, Brian André, Nicholas Wasicek (fiancé
Moira Bedell); her twin brother, Elmer (Nancy) Ellis of Randolph, VT; and nieces,
nephews and cousins. She was
predeceased by her beloved husband, Ambrose on
September 26, 2023.
Erma was born on
January 20, 1931, daughter of the late Elton E. and Ruth V. Morey Ellis. She
graduated from Randolph High School with the class of 1949 and furthered
her education at the University of Vermont, graduating with a Bachelor of
Science in Home Economics degree in 1953.
She went on to teach Junior High Home Economics for three years in
Saranac Lake, NY and one year in Massena, NY. On July 19, 1958, she married Ambrose André
Jr. at Sts. Donation & Rogation Catholic
Church in Randolph, Vermont, a loving union lasting more than 65 years.
Together, they raised their family in Amherst, New York where she worked as
a library clerk at Maple East Elementary School in the Williamsville
Central School District for 16 years, retiring in 1985. In 1989 the couple moved to Brantingham, NY
then to Lowville in 2010, and later Brookside Senior Living Community in
2014.
Erma was a
communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. For many years, she was an active member
of the Brantingham Walkie-Talkies. Recognizing the need for a library in
the area, Erma was a founder of the Brantingham-Greig Library. She was also a member of the Brookside Book
Club. Erma was a prolific and talented
crafter excelling in sewing, delicate needlework, knitting, crocheting, and
basketweaving. Her creations grace
the homes of treasured friends and family.
Her greatest
source of pride was her children and grandchildren. Erma maintained
connections near and far through her frequent handwritten letters and cards.
She got her first computer and taught herself how to create greeting cards
and letters with her new toys. When she recognized a friend may need a hug,
the cards and letters were accompanied by a comforting Huggie
Bear stuffed animal.
In keeping with Erma’s
wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held
at Brantingham Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Rev. Douglas
Decker, Pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic Church officiating. Arrangements are with Iseneker
Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Contributions in Erma’s name may be made to
the Brantingham-Greig Library and Technical Center, 5186 Greig Road, Greig,
NY 13345.
Erma’s family
would like to send a special thank you to the angels of the Rainbow
Community at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility for their loving
care and kindness of their mother during her stay at the nursing home.
