 LOWVILLE- Gerald F. “Jerry”
Edwards, 87, of NYS Route 177, passed away on Thursday morning October 3, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.
The funeral
service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 8, 2024
at Iseneker Funeral Home, with Deacon Ron
Gingerich officiating. Burial with
Military Honors will follow in Beaches Bridge Cemetery, Watson. A luncheon
at 3 G Fire Department will immediately follow the graveside service, all
are welcome. Any food donations may
be taken directly to 3 G Fire Department on Tuesday morning. Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on
Monday October 7, 2024 at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Jerry’s
memory to Lewis County General Hospital Fund for Hope, 7785 N. State
Street, Lowville, NY 13367 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude
Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
He is survived by
his beloved wife of 51 years, Brenda; three children, Tami LaVancha of
Carthage; Travis and Jessica Edwards of Carthage; Todd and Beth Edwards of
Croghan; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a half-brother,
William E Edwards of Lowville; three sisters, Donna Eastman of
Ellisburg; Susan LaChausse of Florida; Shirley and Martin Beyer of Lowville; two
half-sisters, Mary Micek of Lowville; Patricia Hellinger of Lowville; a
brother-in-law, James Rowsam of Lowville; several
nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother, John Louis
“Jack” Edwards; three sisters, Joan Rowsam, Margaret
“Peg” Nevills, and Nancy Beyer; five brothers-in-law, Dale Nevills,
Theodore Micek, Bruce LaChausse, William Eastman
and Walter Beyer.
Jerry was born on
February 17, 1937 in Croghan, NY, a son of the
late Gerald A. and Mary Bockenheim Edwards, and
the step-son of the late Mary Margaret Chartrand Edwards. He attended Country School in
Kirschnerville & Indian River, Father Leo Memorial School, and Beaver
Falls High School. Jerry worked for
Duflo’s Car Dealership in Croghan, and area farms before he was drafted in the
U.S. Army in 1960, serving until his honorable disscharge
in 1962. After his service, he
worked on area farms and bought a farm in 1967 on State Route 26, Lowville,
operating until 1972. On May 12,
1972, he married Brenda A. Dicob at the Lowville United Methodist
Church. Their marriage was later blessed
in the Catholic Church. The couple bought a home on the Number Four Road,
Lowville and Jerry worked in area gas stations. He then purchased and operated Jerry’s
Arco in 1977-1980, he then opened Jerry’s Gulf at the Y in Lowville until
1983. He worked for Dick Rennie in
Denmark for three years, then Burkarts in
Lowville. Jerry went to work for the
Lewis County Highway Department as a heavy equipment mechanic from
1992-1999, when he retired. For the
past 50 years, he has been involved in tractor puling, selling the pull
tractor in 1986. He then officiated
the pulls and his wife was the entry clerk.
For the past 20 years he has been working with the Amish.
He was a
communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville.
He enjoyed
helping the Amish, going to McDonald’s each morning for coffee, and
spending time with his family. In
the late 1960’s, Jerry enjoyed drag racing.
