cycle from farm to market to table
WATERTOWN, NEW YORK– The Lowville
Free Library is hosting the Farm and Market Discovery Zone from October
12-19, with special times for self-directed play and storytimes
that help young children better understand the connection between local
agriculture and the food on their plates.
The first Farm
and Market Storytime takes place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, which
is National Farmer’s Day.

program information can be found on the library’s website: https://lowvillefreelibrary.org/farmandmarket24
Library Director
Meghan Harney says, “Play is such an important way kids learn, so we're
thrilled to be hosting the Farm and Market!”
The Farm and
Market Discovery Zone was developed by Cornell Cooperative Extension of
Lewis County and made its debut at the 2024 Lewis County Fair. The
Discovery Zone includes a mini market with produce, shopping baskets, and
cash register, as well as a fully equipped play kitchen.
CCE of Lewis County Farm to School
Coordinator David Nisley says, “We’re excited to bring this interactive
exhibit to Lowville Free Library, where families can explore everything
from setting up their own farm to shopping at a produce market to cooking in
a kitchen - all in one place.”
Plans are
underway for additional Lewis County libraries to host the exhibit to
support their early literacy programs.
