BEAVER FALLS– Stuart E. Johnson, 88, of Cut Off Road, passed away Saturday September
7, 2024, at his home, under the loving care of his family and Lewis County
Hospice.
He is survived by
his beloved wife of nearly 21 years, Donna; a son, James Johnson of
Castorland; five step-sons, Lynn (Anne) Petzoldt of Beaver Falls; Larry
Petzoldt and his companion (Christine Dorn) of Castorland, Leslie Petzoldt
and his companion, (Kelly Nolan) of New Bremen; Loren (Rita) Petzoldt of
Westfield, VT; Lansing (Marcy) Petzoldt of Lowville; 14 grandchildren; 7
great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law from his first
marriage, Ronald (Eleanor) Herzig of Beaver Falls; Benjamin Herzig of VA; and
Linda (Tim) Arnette of VA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was
predeceased by his first wife, Donna in 2003; and a sister, Phyllis
Matuszak in 2014.
Stuart was born
on November 11, 1935 at home in Castorland, NY, a
son of the late Lloyd “Tommy” and Elizabeth Valin Johnson. He graduated from Beaver River Central
School in 1953 and attended Morrisville College. He worked for Gerald A. Nortz for two
years. On August 16, 1956, he
married Donna Herzig at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Beaver
Falls. The couple made their home on
the Second Road, Castorland. Stuart
worked for J. P. Lewis Mill in Beaver Falls for 42 ˝ years, retiring on
December 30, 1998 as production foreman. Mrs. Johnson passed away on January 7,
2003. On October 3, 2003, he married
Donna Eaton Petzoldt at Salem Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Bruce
Lyndaker officiating. He was a
member of the Railroad Society of Northern New York, Croghan. He enjoyed old time country music,
bluegrass music, and dancing. He
also enjoyed swimming. Most of all,
he cherished spending time with his family.
Calling hours
will be held from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Salem Christian Fellowship Church, Beaver Falls
with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 p.m., at the
church. Burial
will be in Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls, at the convenience of
the family. Donations may be made in
