Description automatically generatedCROGHAN, NY- Herbert M. Aucter, 89, formerly of Dicob Rd., Croghan, died on Monday, September 30, 2024 in Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, where he had resided since January of this year.

 

Born June 21, 1935 in the Town of New Bremen, NY, a son of William and Marie Dicob Aucter, he was educated in Dicob’s Corners Country School.

 

Herbert was a logger for most of his life, beginning at a young age working for his father on many jobs throughout the North Country.  He also hand-crafted ax handles for a great many years for people throughout the area.

 

One of his most favorite activities was tapping trees, boiling and producing his own maple syrup for his family and friends.

 

Surviving are his sister, Viola Marolf, of Constableville, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by his brother Sylvester Aucter, and his two sisters, Cecile Aucter and Shirley Ardison.

 

Funeral Services for Herbert will be on Thursday, October 3, 2024, beginning with a 9:15 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Croghan.

 

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
