September is National Suicide Prevention
Awareness Month, a time to remember lives lost to suicide and those who
struggle with suicide ideation. The most recent data, released in 2022,
indicates that Lewis County has the highest death by suicide rates in New
York State.
During the month
of September, the Lewis County Suicide Prevention Coalition is working to
raise awareness and recognize those lost.
We are looking
for support from residents, businesses and organizations throughout Lewis
County by creating a display or decorating their homes and businesses with purple
and teal to show support for suicide awareness and prevention. We then
invite you to share images of your display on Facebook and tag the Lewis County
Suicide Prevention Coalition's Facebook page by September 13, 2024.
Beginning on September 16, all displays will be
posted to the Lewis County Suicide Prevention Coalition Facebook page for
the community. The display that receives the most reactions will be awarded
as the most impactful display and will receive $100, donated by
linkinglewiscounty.com.
