LCHS MICRO MART OPENS

Description automatically generatedLOWVILLE, NY─ LCHS recently held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of the new Micro Mart, which is located on the first floor in Room B147E, directly across from the West Wing elevator.

The mini-market concept was brought forward by the dedicated members of the LCHS Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC). This committee, comprising current and former patients, family members, and community members, is a testament to our shared commitment to advancing best practices at a healthcare organization. These volunteer members work hand in hand with employees to enhance patient and family experiences, making everyone feel included in the process.

The Lewis County Health System PFAC has four community members, Brenda Bourgeois, Amy Deavers, Maria Garito, Sue Matuszak, and two social workers, Margaret Grant and Amanda Hosmer.  The community members regularly meet with patients, families, and staff. During their conversations, a consistent concern was the lack of food availability when the cafeteria was closed. The committee researched options and presented the ideas to the administration. After reviewing the solutions, the team selected the Micro Mart option. With the guidance of the PFAC committee, LCHS Administration, Dietary, Plant Operations and Information Systems departments, and Black River Vending, employees and visitors can now purchase foods, snacks, and beverages 24/7.

According to LCHS Director of Social Work and PFAC Committee Chair Margaret Grant, "The group is eagerly accepting new member applications.  If you want to be part of this transformative work and have been a patient or a family member of a patient of the health system in the past 12 months, we encourage you to apply.

If you want to become a member and shape healthcare in your community, please contact Margaret Grant, LMSW, at 315-376-5496 or download an application form at https://www.lcgh.net/news-1. Applications can be mailed to Margaret Grant, Lewis County General Hospital, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, New York 13367, emailed to socs@lcgh.net, or faxed to 315-376-4189.
