Description automatically generatedCASTORLAND- Wilma J. Martin, 78, of Bowman Street, passed away late Sunday evening, July 14, ,2024 at Lewis County General Hospital. Lowville.

 

She is survived by her husband Ezra; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Olga Martin of Fayetteville, NY; three grandsons, Andrew, Anthony and Aidan of Fayetteville; a sister-in-law, Teresa Flaherty of Rochester; nieces, nephews and cousins; including close cousins, Richard and Joanne Bowden, George Flaherty, and Fern Priest Trowbridge and Carl Trowbridge; and her Martin family.  She is predeceased by a brother Hollis D. Flaherty; and a sister Florence Flaherty, who passed shortly after birth.

 

Wilma was born on March 11, 1946 in Watertown, NY, a daughter of the late Dempster C. and Coral Priest Flaherty.  She graduated from Adams Center-Adams Central School in 1964 and Career Academy in Washington D.C. to become a medical assistant.  Wilma returned to Lewis County and took a medical assistant training program at Lewis County General Hospital.  She worked for Lewis County General Hospital for 32 years as a medical technician.  On April 18, 1981, she married Ezra J. Martin at Croghan Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart and Rev. Richard Zehr officiating.  In 1997, she started working for U.S. Care as a caregiver for three years and then worked for the Arc Oneida/Lewis for 11 years, retiring in 2011.

 

Wilma was a member of Croghan Mennonite Church.

 

She enjoyed feeding the birds, taking walks, going down to the river to sit and have quiet reflection.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and family activities.

 

Calling hours will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024 and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Croghan Mennonite Church.  The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Croghan Mennonite Church.  A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday July 19, 2024 at Adams Rural Cemetery in Adams, NY. Contributions may be made in memory of Wilma to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367 or Lewis County General Hospital Fund for Hope, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
