NOTICE- LEWIS
COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH HOLDING TETANUS CLINIC THIS AFTERNOON:
LOWVILLE, NY- Today, Saturday,
July 13, 2024, Lewis County Public Health will be administering tetanus
vaccines for those who have been assisting with flood water cleanup. Public
Health will be open from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in their offices located at 7785
N State Street, Suite 2, Lowville, NY, at Lewis County General Hospital.
Vaccines will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Tetanus is a bacterium
that can be found in soil, manure, and on rusty objects. Any wound or
puncture, even small ones, sustained during cleanup of flooded areas is at
risk for tetanus infection. Individuals with wounds who have not had a
tetanus shot within the last 5 years should receive a booster. Tetanus
shots should be given within 48 hours of exposure
