Lowville, NY- Lewis County declared a State of Emergency around 6:30 p.m. this evening, according to County Manager Ryan Piche, due to flooding occurring in the central portion of the county.

The Village of Lowville also declared a State of Emergency with widespread flooding reported throughout the village. Many streets are impassable and dangerous, according to Police Chief Daryl Ortlieb. A No Unnecessary Travel Advisory has been issued in the Village as well.

A shelter, staffed by the American Red Cross, has been set up at the Double Play Community Center on Bardo Road for anyone who may be flooded out of their home or are unable to get to their home due to road closures from the flooding.

Fire crews from neighboring departments have responded to Lowville to assist with pumping basements, evacuating some residences, and closing roads and streets. Flooding is reported in the north end of the village, including Bostwick Street, Park Ave., Summit, Trinity Avenue to the south end of the village along Utica Boulevard and Ross Road.

Mr. Piche said that extra help from the New York State Police, Forest Rangers and Environmental Conservation Officers have arrived in Lewis County to assist with the developing situation.
