Building Committee
The Lewis County Dairy Industry Building
Committee is excited to announce their 30th Annual Cheese
Auction. In celebration of 30 years,
a special “30-year celebration” basket will be auctioned. The basket will
feature 20-year and 10-year aged cheddar cheese. A search for 30-year aged
cheese did not prove to be successful.
The cheese will be paired with wine and some other local items. Don’t miss out on bidding on this
basket. Another special feature of
the 30-year auction will be a free drawing for the 2024 Agricultural Hall
of Fame wooden cheese box. Three
wooden boxes of cheddar cheese will be given away.
The auction is
generously sponsored by Lowville Producer’s Dairy Cooperative. Lowville Producers is donating all of the cheddar cheese and specialty cheeses for the
auction. Five-, ten- and twenty-pound blocks of cheddar cheese will be
auctioned plus specialty cheeses to include Chastanet, Gouda, Peppadew,
Swiss, Muenster, Steakhouse Onion and more.
We are very
pleased to have Joseph Bush of L J Bush Livestock and Trucking as
auctioneer again this year.
Everyone is
invited to attend the cheese auction at the Lewis County Fair on Tuesday,
July 16, 2024 at approximately 10:00 a.m. in the
cattle show ring. The auction immediately follows the fair opening
ceremonies. The “Big Cheese” bid will be the highlight of the auction. A twenty-pound block of cheese will be
auctioned as the Big Cheese and the high bid for the block will be
“matched” by Kraft Heinz Lowville.
Gary Rosiczkowski, Superintendent of the Dairy Industry
Building, will be MC for the festivities and as always will be wearing his
well-known “cheese hat.” Gary says “Please come and support our 30th
cheese auction and make it the best auction ever! “
Lewis County Dairy Princess Malorie Hawn and
NYS FFA President Jack Beyer will give comments followed by a parade of
Enhancement Calves. Presentations to be made will include the Young Farmer
Award, Distinguished Farmer Award, and Agricultural Society Hall of
Fame. The Hall of Fame recognition
will be imprinted on our annual commemorative wooden box containing two
pounds of cheddar cheese. These
boxes and cheese are fully sponsored by Kraft Heinz Lowville and will be
for sale all fair week for $20 in the Dairy Building Kraft Heinz Booth.
Proceeds of the auction
will be used to support events, activities, 4-H ,
FFA, and ag scholarships for local youth involved in agriculture.
