Vibrant Fence Art Display to
Park in Lyons Falls, Involving Local Community in Design Process
Lyons Falls, NY- Riverside Park is set to undergo a colorful transformation thanks to
2024 St. Lawrence County Arts Grant recipient, Anne Huntress. Through the
award of this grant, she will introduce a unique functional art display
that will engage the community in a creative endeavor. The initiative,
titled "Fence Art: Weaving
Community Threads," invites Village patrons to participate in the
creation of a captivating pattern using yards of acrylic yarn on the park's
fences.
This project is made possible with funds from the
Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York
State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor
and the New York State Legislature, and
administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.
Anne aims to blend artistic expression with community
involvement, turning the Park’s fence into a vibrant canvas that reflects creativity of the local community. Patrons will have the
opportunity to influence the design by participating in a survey, where
they can choose from a selection of patterns proposed by the artist. The display promises to be a visual
spectacle, transforming the park into an immersive and dynamic art
installation.
The entire process will be captured on video and
edited to time-lapse the creative process.
Various clips will be uploaded to various social media sites in
attempts to draw visitors to our wonderful corner of the Adirondacks.
The process will kick off with the survey, available
at this season’s Lyons Falls ALIVE Farmers Market (held each Tuesday from 11-4 from June
11- October 1, 2024 at Riverside Park), where patrons can cast their votes for the
preferred pattern. Once the winning design is selected, Anne Huntress and
the dedicated volunteers will commence the installation, turning the Park
fences into a stunning tapestry of color.
ALIVE encourages everyone in the community to
participate in this collaborative art project. Fence Art: Weaving Community
Threads promises to be a testament to the power of unity, creativity, and
shared experiences.
