Lowville Honors Veterans and Active-Duty Members with
Tribute Banners
 More than 75 banners are proudly
displayed throughout the Village of Lowville to honor and remember the
military service of its veterans.
The project to
honor area veterans was originally spearheaded by the Lowville Academy
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Advisor Suzanne
Schwarting, and then Amy Beyer after Mrs. Schwarting retired, guided high school
students Anna Exford and Mackenzie Ples from concept to completion. Now in
its fourth year, the banner project continues to grow.
Anna and
Mackenzie have since graduated, and along with their advisor these students
provided a seamless transition to area volunteers willing to carry on the
program to honor area veterans.
The lead
organization for the project now is called Lowville Hometown Heroes, LLC,
with its office at 7659 North State Street, Lowville, NY 13367. Ben Roggie
is the Executive Director and can be reached at

The group is working
in conjunction with Lowville's veterans
organizations; American Legion Post 162, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
6912, and Marine Corp League Det 754.
A special note of
thanks to Tony and Julie Beyer, along with Ian Stedman. They donated countless
hours hanging all the banners in time for Memorial Day. Their work
continues as more banners are added. In addition, thank you to Tony and
Linda Urbaniak of Urbaniak Studio and Color Lab for scanning all the photos
for the banners.
