Obituary: Janet M. Proulx Mathys, 92, Formerly of Croghan

Description automatically generatedJanet M. Proulx Mathys, 92, died January 12, 2024, in Red Rock, Texas.

 

She is survived by her beloved husband Richard F. Mathys of 72 years; sons Richard Jr., Michael, Timothy (Nike), Larry (Patti) and daughter Patricia Mackey, all of Texas; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; bothers Wilfred/Stump (Ellen) and Kenneth (Joyce), sisters Elizabeth Ritz Leonard, Simone Ward, and Patricia (Butch) Bramhall; sister-in-law Mary Jane Mathys and nieces and nephews.

 

She was predeceased by brothers Paul and Donald (Frenchy); sisters Theresa Rosiczkowski and Mary Ann Reed; sisters-in-law Toby Proulx and Sally Mathys Donihee; brothers-in-law Leon Rosiczkowski, Everett Reed, Richard Ritz, Floyd Leonard, Thomas Ward, and Thomas Mathys; and daughter-in-law Lynn Ann Johnson.

 

She was born in the village of Croghan to the late Wilfred and Imelda LeBrasseur Proulx. Janet graduated from Father Leo’s high school. She worked for Duflo Chevrolet car dealers in Croghan as the office manager. She married Richard F. Mathys on June 9, 1951, at St. Stephen’s church in Croghan. The couple lived in Texas, where they owned and operated several Hills Package Stores, Inc. After retirement they travelled much of the world.

 

Janet and Dick have many wonderful memories of growing up in the villages of Croghan and Beaver Falls, NY.

 

The tributes spoken at her memorial by her husband, children, and grandchildren were a testament of her abundant love and caring for her family.

 

Burial was at Asumption Cemetery, Section 12, Austin, Texas.
