Free Home-Based Childcare Training - Enroll by April
22, 2024
Enroll now to
secure a seat in Jefferson Community College’s (JCC) home-based childcare
training program offered free to residents of Jefferson and Lewis counties.
Deadline to enroll is April 22, 2024. Upon successful completion,
participants will be prepared to start their own home-based childcare
business in as little as four months!
Jefferson’s
program provides participants with business and education training and
assistance with filing for New York State registration and licensing.
Training includes 38 hours of non-credit business and health/safety
requirements that may be completed on JCC’s campus and online. Stipends for
childcare, and business start-up supplies will be provided to program
participants. In addition, mentorship extends beyond the training program.
Participants of Jefferson’s home-based childcare training will have the
opportunity to join a closed Facebook group comprised of local home-based
childcare owners.
Jefferson’s pilot
program for the home-based childcare training began in June 2021 to address
the shortage of childcare options for working families in the North
Country. As a result, the program has facilitated 64 childcare slots
locally. A model for other communities, this initiative was replicated in
February 2023 by neighboring areas including a partnership between JCC,
Oswego County, Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County, the Small
Business Development Center, and Oswego County Workforce New York.
The home-based
childcare training is made possible through a partnership between JCC,
Community Action Planning Council, and the NYS Small Business Development
Center along with generous support by the Jefferson County Local
Development Corporation and Advocate Drum.
