Seeks Nominations for the NYS Bureau of EMS
Awards to be presented at the EMS Spring Fling
Watertown, NY – The North
Country Regional Emergency Medical Services Council (REMSCO) is seeking
nominations for the annual New York State Department of Health, Bureau
of Emergency Medical Services awards.
Annually the New
York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services,
presents awards in several categories. These categories include, Advanced
Life Support Provider of the Year, Basic Life Support Provider of the Year,
EMS Agency of the Year, EMS Communications Specialist of the Year, EMS
Educator of the Year, Excellence in Quality and Safety, Registered Nurse of
Excellence, and Youth Provider of the Year.
“The Regional
Awards gives us an opportunity to spotlight our unsung heroes. Our Region
has many professionals – both paid and volunteer – who give selflessly.
These EMS providers are well-trained and deserve the recognition of their
peers. The award winners will then be submitted to New York State for
consideration of the awards at a State Level,” said Debbie
Singleton, Chair, North Country REMSCO.
Another award
that is presented is the Richard Beebe Education award. Mr. Beebe was an
EMS educator and paramedic clinician. He was also an active EMS provider
for over 35 years, including 25 years as a paramedic for the Guilderland
Police Department. Publishing multiple textbooks, speaking at numerous
state, national and international conferences and serving on the board of
the National Association of EMS Educators as well as the board of the
Continuing Education Coordinating Board for EMS, Mr. Beebe left a lasting
impression and legacy on the EMS community. Past recipients include Ann
Smith, Jefferson County Paramedic Program, Paul Barter and Donald Thompson.
As one of 18
program agencies in New York State, the North Country EMS Program Agency
oversees operations of more than 170 EMS organizations across Clinton,
Essex, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Warren, Washington, and
parts of Hamilton counties — most of which are staffed by volunteers from
their communities.
Because of its
role on the “front line” of healthcare, EMS operations require a great deal
of planning to ensure consistency, quality, and seamless cooperation with
local hospitals, 911 centers, and other agencies. In the North Country,
FDRHPO assists with this planning and facilitation through its partnership
with the EMS Program Agency.
Nominations are
due by Friday, March 8. Winners will be announced at the 2024 EMS Spring
Fling that will be held at Bonnie Castle Resort & Conference Center in
Alexandria Bay on Friday, April 11.
