State Police Investigate Drowning Incident in Port Leyden

 

 

On January 14, 2024, State Police responded to 2490 State Route 12 in the town of Leyden for a report of a possible drowning.

 

When patrols arrived, they found 26-year-old Andrew M. Locash from Port Leyden deceased at the Patriot Hydropower Dam in the Black River, Town of Leyden.  The preliminary investigation has determined that Locash was kayaking down the Black River in frozen waters and drowned when his kayak overturned. 

 

An autopsy is scheduled to determine an official cause of death.  No indications of any foul play.

 

The investigation is continuing.
