Gerald C. “Gerry” Crowell

 

LOWVILLE - Gerald C. “Gerry” Crowell, 73, of Erie Canal Road, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 19, 2024.

 

Gerry is survived by his wife, Anne; two daughters and a son-in-law, Katherine and Brandon Meister of Croghan, Christina Crowell of Baldwinsville; his cherished twin granddaughters, Quinn and Peyton Bulluck; a sister, Bonnie Pozefsky of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; his father-in-law, Neil Lyng of Lowville; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his mother-in-law, Nancy Lyng.

Gerald was born on October 6, 1950 in Utica, New York, a son of the late Francis Crowell and Lucille T. Thompson.  He graduated from Lowville Academy and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Canton ATC, a Bachelor's Degree in Education from SUNY Geneseo, and a Master's in School Administration from St. Lawrence University.  On August 15, 1987, he married Anne Lyng at their home with Town Justice Julius Guignard officiating.  Gerry embarked on a career in education.  He began his journey as an elementary teacher at Lowville Academy, where he served from 1977 to 1986.  His passion for teaching and his commitment to special education led him to a position teaching Life Skills/Special Education for Jefferson/Lewis BOCES.  Gerry was Middle School Principal at Beaver River Central School and later Superintendent of Schools for BRCS from 1997 until his retirement in 2005.  After retirement, he continued to contribute to the field of education as interim Elementary Principal for South Lewis Central School in 2006. Gerry served as Town of Watson Supervisor from 2020 through 2021, and currently served as Town of Watson Councilman.

Gerry found joy in carpentry and woodworking, motorcycling, and spending time in the woods.  He especially enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs.

Those who knew Gerry will remember a devoted family man, his thoughtful nature, and a valuable educator who lived a life of purpose.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating.  There are no calling hours.  Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gerry’s memory to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367 or Lewis County Search & Rescue, 7782 W. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
