...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1015 PM EST THIS EVENING...

 

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

 

* WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following

  county, Lewis.

 

* WHEN...Until 1015 PM EST Monday.

 

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying

  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams

  continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

  Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water.

 

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 408 PM EST, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain

    in the warned area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin

    shortly. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Road

    closures remain possible, especially near the Black River.

  - Flooding impacts will continue, but little additional

    rainfall is expected.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

    Lowville, Whetstone Gulf State Park, Highmarket, Watson,

    Martinsburg, Lyonsdale, Greig, Port Leyden, Lyons Falls,

    Constableville, Turin, Osceola, Mohawk Hill, Talcottville,

    Brantingham, Sperryville, West Leyden, Swancott Mill and

    North Osceola.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

 

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.

 

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the

dangers of flooding.

 

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are

potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded

roads. Find an alternate route.

* WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following counties, Lewis and Oswego.

 

* WHEN...Until 415 PM EST Monday.

 

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams will continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. There also will be areas of slow moving or standing water.

 

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 1010 AM EST, weather spotters reported between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain has fallen. This will result in ponding of water in low-lying areas and may result in minor flooding along some creeks and rivers.

  - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.25 inches are possible in the warned area.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

    Lowville, Central Square, Redfield, Highmarket, Whetstone Gulf State Park, Constantia, West Monroe, Phoenix,  

    Watson, Martinsburg, Williamstown, Lyonsdale, Greig, Cleveland, Port

    Leyden, Lyons Falls, Parish, Altmar, Constableville and Turin.
