Board of Elections provided the official certified results for all offices on the ballot in Lewis
County for the 2023 General Election held on November 7th.
While many
results could be determined on election night, a number
of races were awaiting certified results with write-in candidate
tallies included. Most offices impacted by this were races that had no
declared candidate on the ballot for the position. This was the case for
the following offices, with results:
·
Lewis Town Clerk- Olivia Fruin wins with 29 write-in votes
·
Leyden Town Highway Superintendent- Sean Shanks wins
with 78 write-in votes
·
Lyonsdale Town Clerk- Cynthis Redmond wins with 56
write-in votes
·
Martinsburg Town Tax Collector- Deanna Doviak wins
with 8 write-in votes
·
Montague Town Clerk/Collector- Ahsley M. Lucas wins
with 7 write-in votes
·
New Bremen Town Council- Marcus Bush wins with 130
write-in votes
·
Lyonsdale Town Supervisor- Thomas Morley wins with 68
write-in votes
·
Montague Town Supervisor- Bruce D. Williams wins with
3 write-in votes
·
Osceola Town Supervisor- John Holliday wins with 15
write-in votes
·
Port Leyden Village Trustee (To Fill a Vacancy)- Deborah
Belmont wins with 44 write in votes
One race ended
with a tie. Both Sue Unger and Karen Bowen received 9 write-in votes for
Harrisburg Town Clerk/Collector, an office with no declared candidate on
the ballot. This results in a “failure to elect”, according to the Lewis
County Board of Elections, and it will be up to the Town to appoint someone
until the next General Election.
There were also a
few races where there was a declared candidate on the ballot, but the
number of write-in ballots exceeded their vote total. This was the case
for:
·
Montague Town Council (2 seats)- Michael Kiernan wins
one seat with 20 votes, while Richard Williams wins the second seat with 11
votes
·
Port Leyden Village Mayor- Heather Collins wins with
116 write-in votes
·
Port Leyden Village Trustee (2 seats)- Charles
Kraeger wins one seat with 93 write-in votes, while Jennifer Samson wins
the second seat with 80 write in votes.
As previously reported, the race for District Attorney, which
was too close to call on election night, was certified on November 21 with
Jeffery Tompkins receiving 3,032 votes to incumbent Leanne Moser’s 2,973
votes.
You can view the full certified results of all races here, which includes
the tallies for all write-in candidates at the end.
