WINONA FOREST RECREATION ASSOCIATION 2023-24 WINTER
EVENTS SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
LACONA, NEW YORK - The Winona
Forest Recreation Association (WFRA) is excited to announce 10 winter
events to be held in the Winona Forest, starting December 25. Please be aware
that the WFRA board of directors has decided that there will be NO
reschedules of events this winter season. Details about each event and race
status are available on individual event registration pages, or on WFRA’s
website and Facebook page. WFRA is an all-volunteer organization that
depends on membership fees and donated time to provide quality recreational
opportunities on western edge of Tug Hill. Become

Sunday, December
25, 2023 - Sunday, March 10, 2024 Winona Snowshoe
Marathon and Ultra-Marathon. Maybe the best way to experience Winona
in the winter, an offering of 26 or 34 miles of well
marked trail. We have added an amazing new course, the Purple,
coming in between 7-8 miles long, to provide an ultra-marathon option. Turn
by turn signage using colored codes throughout, the Black, Red, Green,
Orange, Yellow, Blue, and now Purple snowshoe courses
will guide you through the depths of Winona Forest. You get a custom made MARATHON/ULTRAMARATHON Hoodie, along with
entry to our 3 live snowshoe races which include the season opener Norway
5K, the famous Stone Wall 5K and 10K, and the March Orange Course, where
the snowshoe season concludes with our celebration of living a Tug Hill winter

Sunday, January
7, 2024 - Norway 5K Snowshoe Race. With scenic overlooks, picturesque
stone walls, and rolling terrain on one of WFRA’s newest trails, this single track route is a perfect “first race” of the

Race fee $35, free if already registered for the Winona
Snowshoe
Marathon. Dion snowshoes available for $10 rental
fee.
Sunday, January
21, 2024 - The Stone Wall Snowshoe Race. Freshly groomed
trails combined with natural obstacles with 5K and 10K options attract both
hard-core racers and recreational snowshoers alike. Register at www.runreg.com/winonasnowshoe.
Race fee $37, free if already registered for the Winona Snowshoe Marathon.
Dion snowshoes available for $10 rental fee.
Saturday, January
27 and Sunday, January 28, 2024 - Tug Hill Challenge Dog Sled Races. Organized by the
Pennsylvania Dog Sled Club, pro and recreational mushing teams will compete
in the Tug Hill Challenge. Come witness the excitement, from the time the
harnesses come out until the starter says GO, of the dogs doing what they
love to do. Morning events will include the 6 and 8 dog sled teams and
skijoring. Afternoon events will include small team sled, fat bike and canicross, finishing up with the juniors. More

4, 2024 - WFRA Nordic Dash 9. A brand new
Nordic event course that includes traditional trails, with the addition of
zippy narrow trails. 9 miles of cross country ski fun. Registration fee $40 for 18 years of age and

Sunday, February
11, 2024 - The SnoFatShu Winter Duathlon. The Snofatshu consists of a snowshoe leg of approximately 3
miles arriving back to the transition area to send the partner racer out
with the fatty for about 9 miles of fat trail heaven. Distance will depend
on snow conditions. Once back, the snowshoe runner will head out for the
final 3 mile lap. This event might be the toughest
winter event offered, highly challenging but incredibly FUN. Athletes will test
their limits on what could be the most difficult event ever attempted. A

18, 2024 - Winona Forest Tourathon. This year’s Tourathon course will be a 9K loop that can be done
either once, twice, or three times, depending on the participants choice.
Classic style ski only. Registration fee $40 for

Sunday, February
25, 2024 - Winona Tired Iron Vintage & Classic Snowmobile Ride. Snowmobiles 1999
and older are welcome to attend WFRA’s first vintage snowmobile event. The
event is family-friendly and free with no registration required, and WFRA
will have a permit so that snowmobiles do not need to be registered, but
they do need to be insured. Sponsored by Cedar Pines Restaurant, Redfield;
Rock’s Sales and Service, Parish; and Jason Romano - Castle X Ambassador.

Sunday, March 3,
2024 - IditaFat. This event is
consistently one of the biggest winter fat bike events in the USA! The 20K
and 40K courses will feature challenging single track
trails. The 10K citizens course will include wide open double track family
friendly trails. This is truly a fat bike event and tires less than 3.5
inches wide will not be allowed! There will be no aid stations on the
course, but crossing guards will be posted at main intersections and the
course will be
well
marked. Fire pits, warm food, hot chocolate, and water will be available

Sunday, March 10,
2024 - The Orange Course Snowshoe. A 3.65-mile loop trail on a
favorite course with lots of variety in terrain. The event in which we
conclude our winter event season. A celebration with fellow outdoor
