Forest Carbon Workshop for Small Landowners December
4
WATERTOWN, NEW
YORK – A forest carbon workshop will be held on Monday, December 4 at the
Boonville Town Hall with an online option as well. The workshop targets
landowners in the Tug Hill region that own at least 30 acres of forest land
with timber harvest rights. Attendees will learn about the forest carbon
market broadly, and about the Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP) and how
the program might apply to them and enhance their forest management goals.
The FFCP is one
of a few recently developed forest carbon programs that allow smaller
acreage forest owners, who have been sized out of the carbon market in the
past, to access forest carbon programs. Benefits of the program include
guaranteed annual payments over the life of the contract, access to team of
professional foresters or the ability to work with your own trusted
forester, a forest management plan customized for your unique goals or
updates to your existing forest management plan, and guidance to improve
the health of your woods, create habitat for wildlife, and treat invasive
species.
The workshop will
feature speakers from The Nature Conservancy and the American Forestry
Foundation, who will explain the forest carbon credit system and the FFCP.
The director of the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District
will also share the district’s experience as a local partner in the FFCP,
helping to bring the program to eligible local landowners.
The workshop will
be held in a hybrid format at 6 p.m. on Monday December 4, 2023. The in person event will be at the Boonville Town Hall,
13149 NY-12, Boonville, NY 13309. All interested parties should register at
tinyurl.com/ForestCarbonCredit and a Zoom link
will automatically be sent to those interested in attending virtually.
