He is survived by
his beloved wife, Linda, of 56 years. Their love story began on October 28,
1967, when they married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New York Mills.
Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and joy, raising
their six children and eventaully welcoming their
spouses into the family; Penny and Bill Montgomery of Altmar,
Douglas and Deborah Domagala of Lowville, Michael and Michelle Domagala of
Indianapolis, IN, Robert and Nancy Domagala of Boonville, Lori and Tim Doty
of Rolla, MO, Sherry and Daniel Beyer of Lowville;18 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Edward Kubinski
of Lowville; several nieces,
nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
John was born on
May 22, 1945, in Stamford, CT, a son of the late John A. and Stella M.
Matula Domagala. He was proud graduate of General Martin High School and Mohawk
Valley Community College in the Electrical Program. From 1968 to 1990, he and Linda owned and
operated his parents' former dairy farm on Meiss Road in Glenfield.
Following this, he served the community as a bus driver for South Lewis
Central School District for three years. With his passion for electrical
work, he completed five years of electrical training with IBEW #910 in
Watertown. In 1997, John took his entrepreneurial spirit and expertise to
start his own company, J.J. Domagala Electric, which he successfully ran
until his retirement in 2009. Even in retirement, John kept busy, working
for Bernie Bus as an aid and at ACE Hardware in customer service.
John was a man of
faith and a dedicated member of St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Houseville. He was also an active member of the Knights
of Columbus in both Houseville and later Constableville,
being a charter member. His
association with the NRA, IBEW Local #910, and the NNY Electrical
Contractors Association further exemplified his commitment to his community
and his profession.
His love of bow
ties were a reflection of both his inward and
outward fun-loving self.
Voted class clown
in high school, John continued his life as a perennial jokester, bringing laughter
to those around him. He found joy in
viewing Halloween as a month long celebration,
rather than a single-day event. He had a smile and twinkle in his eye that
made sure you knew you were loved. John
always looked forward to gatherings, especially those around polkas and
pierogis.
John's interests
were as diverse as they were passionate. He held a
pilot's license and took great joy in flying. He had a love for photography
and painting. His handy nature was
evident in his prolific woodworking as well as the camp he built on Tug
Hill. He learned to play the ukulele late in life and was an avid
outdoorsman who relished cross-country skiing, hunting, and fishing. He
enjoyed target shooting with friends and family. Above all though, John
cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
With his passing,
John leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a life well-lived. His
memory will be treasured by his family, friends, and all who had the
privilege to know him. He will be
greatly missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of
those he left behind.
