Description automatically generatedCASTORLAND- It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jane M. Houppert, 84, formerly of VanAmber Road, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Lewis County Health System Residential Healthcare Facility, Lowville.

 

Calling hours will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  A funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor officiating.  Burial will be at St. Stephen’s Cemetery.  A luncheon at Croghan American Legion will immediately follow the burial, all are welcome.  Any food donations may be taken directly to the Croghan American Legion on Wednesday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lewis County Health System Rainbow Community, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.

 

She is survived by her beloved husband, Rodney; seven children, Tina Zehr of Lowville, Kevin (Yvonne) Houppert of Glenfield, Ricky (Gina) Houppert of Croghan, Todd (Robin) Houppert of Castorland, Wanda (Sam) Joslin of Lowville, Carrie (Tony) Kraeger of Constableville, Scott Houppert of Lowville; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helena "Sis" Call of Croghan; a brother, Lonnie Herzig of Croghan, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by a baby who passed at birth; a daughter-in-law, Susan Houppert; and two brothers, Sonny Herzig, and Ronald (Janet) Herzig.

Jane was a born on October 29, 1939, in Croghan, NY, a daughter of the late John and Eva Martin Herzig.  She graduated from Beaver River Central School and attended Bryant & Stratton Business School in Syracuse.  On February 13, 1960, she married Rodney P. Houppert at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Belfort.  Jane raised her family, and then worked at Ver's Restaurant in Lowville for many years.  She later worked for Beaverite Products in Beaver Falls and later Croghan, where she worked for a total of 40 years, until the mill closed.

Jane had a zest for life that was infectious and lived every moment to the fullest and could make a room light up with her laughter.  She loved the outdoors, euchre and euchre tournaments.  Her real joy was spending time with her family. She cherished every moment with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
