Description automatically generatedThe annual Lowville Turkey Day 5 K was held on a great North Country Day for running! Thanksgiving Day greeted over 290 runners and walkers with temperatures in the mid thirties and cloudy skies. Family groups of seven and eight came from near and far and enjoyed their exercise early on the holiday.

The event is a family fun run with no official timing or awards. Many participants dress in turkey attire and we had a great group of children among the walkers and runners. Everyone has a good time and by 10 AM we head home to enjoy the remainder of the holiday.

She was followed by Anya Rush in 22:15 and Linnea Haney in 23:28. For the men, Tyler Boliver from Croghan led in a time of 20:10. Andrew Fink was second in 20:20 and veteran runner (not quite old) Doug Domagala was third in 20:28.

Double Play Community Center is proud to host the twelfth annual Lowville Turkey Day 5K. Double Play expresses a special thank you to Dr. Steve Lyndaker and Dr. Shareen Palmer at Lowville Medical Associates. The local medical practice has sponsored the run every year since its inception. A large group of the Lyndaker Family came to participate in the event.  Invenergy Number Three Wind was also a lead sponsor this year. Rhonda Pilgrom, an Invenergy representative, traveled from Buffalo to run the course! The Turkey Trot provides all its proceeds to the United Way Renee Beyer Memorial Fund with over $4,000 raised this year. Double Play Community Center has been dedicated to raising funds for this cause with multiple events each year. The Lowville Turkey Day 5K will be back in 2024 to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday.
