Lila Gingerich Widrick
CROGHAN- Lila Gingerich Widrick, 86, of State Route 812 passed
away peacefully with her children by her side on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, NY.
Lila is survived by three children and their spouses,
Kenneth G. and Denise Widrick of Castorland,
Randy and Patti Widrick of Croghan, Robin R, and Bruce Tabolt of Croghan;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eunice Gingerich of Lowville, Arlene
Widrick of Castorland, Dorothy Zehr of Carthage,
Gordon and Margaret Widrick of Croghan, LaVerne
and Tom Terrillion of Montana, and Wayne Widrick of Watertown; 11grandchildren,
Marika (John) Schwartzentruber, Kyle (Jessica)
Widrick, Aliza (Brad) Nortz, Madalyn (Stephen) Shambo, Tyser Tabolt (Ashley
Walseman), Tabitha (Derek) Micek, Tristan Tabolt,
Trudy Tabolt, Cole (Bridget) Widrick, Rebekah Widrick, Wade (Meghan)
Widrick; and ten great grandchildren, Winston, Zoey, Cale, Bentley, Zionah,
Conley, Julio, Odessa, Nathan, and Harper; several nieces, nephews and
cousins. She is predeceased by her beloved
husband, Kenneth E. Widrick, who passed away on November 24, 1997; her siblings,
Beryl Gingerich, Joan Zehr, and a baby brother who died at birth.
Lila was born on January 8, 1937, a daughter of the
late Samuel and Malinda Martin Gingerich and graduated from Beaver River
Central School in 1954. She married
Kenneth E. Widrick on December 2, 1954 at Croghan
Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. Lila accompanied her
husband while he was in 1-W Service in Syracuse, NY and while there she
worked at The House of the Good Shepard Hospital in the dietary department
for two years. Following his service,
together with her husband they purchased her family's dairy farm and
operated it until her husband's passing in 1997. At that time her son and daughter-in-law,
Randy and Patti Widrick took over the farm and today the farm is owned and
operated by Randy and Patti's son and daughter-in-law, Kyle
and Jessica Widrick. Lila was a
member of the Croghan Mennonite Church.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross Bloodmobiles at the
Croghan American Legion for many years, and was a
longtime volunteer at the Lewis County General Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop. She enjoyed going to Alex Bay on the St.
Lawrence River every summer for a couple of days when her family was young.
Lila enjoyed gardening, taking rides with her sons and stopping for ice cream. She especially enjoyed spending time with
her grandchildren and great grandchildren and making their birthdays special,
those were very special times. Lila
babysat and helped raise several grandchildren and a great grandson. She was thankful to live with her
daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Bruce Tabolt,
since her husband's passing.
The funeral will
be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at
Croghan Mennonite Church with Bruce Roggie, Pastor, officiating. Calling hours are from Noon -2:00 p.m.
prior to the funeral service at the church.
