Honoring 1812 Veterans and Restoration of the Staring Cemetery

Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Staring Cemetery (directions below)

The Staring Cemetery was once a small community cemetery for residents of the Houseville-Pansy Hill area in the Town of Martinsburg. The area is now remote and surrounded by New York State Forest land. The Martinsburg Historical Society and the Town of Martinsburg have restored the cemetery and found two veterans of the War of 1812 laid to rest here. You are invited to attend our dedication of this restored cemetery and salute the veterans buried here. Family names buried here are Staring, Campbell, Houghmaster and others. Bring a lawn chair and be a part of our celebration.

Directions to Staring Cemetery: South on State Route 26, turn right on Houseville Gulf Rd., travel that road until you reach the left turn for Staring/Pansy Hill Cemetery
