Lowville, NY- Lewis County
declared a State of Emergency this afternoon due to the wind damage and
flooding caused by the tornado and severe storms that impacted the area on
Monday.
In an email
announcing the declaration, County Manager Ryan Piche said flooding was occurring
in the Watson and Greig areas of the county and local officials are
monitoring water releases from the dam at the Stillwater Reservoir in
Herkimer County, which impacts water levels throughout Watson and Greig,
potentially impacting roads, bridges, and culverts in those areas.
According to Mr.
Piche, the State of Emergency will open Lewis County, and its Towns and
Villages, to disaster relief funding if public damage exceeds $110,000,
noting that access to funding only applies to public assets. Private
residences and businesses damaged during the storm and the aftermath are
not, at this time, eligible for relief payments, Mr. Piche said, however,
there are disaster funding options available to small businesses through
the Federal Small Business Association and USDA. The State Department of
Financial Services has already been in touch with the businesses affected
by the tornado in Turin, Mr. Piche said, in an effort to
connect them with those resources.

Emergency declaration is included below:
