LOWVILLE/CROGHAN- Roger K. Roch, 69, of Brookside Senior Living Community, formerly
of Croghan, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 14, 2023
at St. Luke’s Hospital, Utica.
He is survived by
his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennie and Craig Campbell of Lockport; five
grandchildren, Leland, Hudson, Adalyn, Lilian, and Fynley;
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by a son, Jason C. Roch,
who passed away on September 6, 2012; two brothers, George Peter Roch and Reginald John Roch; a sister, Jeannette Mary Brown; and two infant
sisters, Catherine and Mary.
Roger was born on
March 29, 1954 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late
George and Helen Lang Roch and graduated from Beaver
River Central School in 1972. As
teenagers Roger and his twin brother, Reggie, started learning the stone
mason trade from their father George.
Roger went out on his own at an early age, working in carpentry, building
fireplaces, chimneys and more. In
the 1970’s, both brothers worked together as the business of Roch Brothers, doing stone/masonry and carpentry
work. In the late 1980’s he was part
of the restoration project at Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay, doing
extensive work on the Power House and Alster Tower. He
created his own “Heart Castle” on Bank Street in Croghan, NY, laying large
heart-cut stones in the chimney and front entryway for his wife. On June 3, 1978, he married Patricia A.
Gore at United Church of Christ in Richville, NY,
with Rev. William Masters and Father Steven Pavignano officiating.
In 1991 Roger went to work in building maintenance at Car Freshner in Watertown.
He retired due to health issues in November of 2015. If you knew Roger, you loved
him. He helped anyone who needed it,
loved big and always got you to laugh with his many “Roch-ster-isms”. He
loved being outdoors in God’s creation, enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved
a good game of cards and being with family and friends.
