PRESS RELEASE:
Flag Retirement Ceremony June 14TH at 6 PM
Lowville American Legion
Flag Day (and the
Army’s birthday) is on Wednesday, June 14th. We will have a flag retirement ceremony,
at the Legion, at 6 pm. Please bring
the family and witness this short and humbling service. According to the US Flag Code. “The flag, when it is in such a condition
that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a
dignified way, preferably by burning.”
This solemn public
ceremony takes roughly 15 minutes and will be conducted at the Lowville
American Legion—refreshments to follow with museum tours.
The Lowville
American Legion has a flag retirement box located next to the post; we also
sell flags (at cost) inside the post. The Lowville American Legion retires
over 2,000 flags yearly.
