NORTH COUNTRY LIBRARY SYSTEM UNVEILS NEW ONLINE CATALOG

WATERTOWN, NY – The North Country Library System is proud to announce the launch of Vega, a new mobile-friendly online catalog aimed at creating a more streamlined, efficient experience for library users.

The new catalog allows library patrons to:

  • Access the catalog from a computer, tablet, or smartphone
  • Get improved search suggestions with the option to see related keywords
  • See all of the relevant versions of the same title in one place, including audio and e-books
  • Enable reader history to keep track of previous checkouts
  • Bookmark titles to save for later as they browse through search results
  • Customize communication preferences to include email or text messages

Current North Country library users will not need to sign up for new cards, and any current checkouts or holds placed prior to the catalog transition will automatically carry over to the new catalog.

One highlight of the new online catalog for library staff is that it can be accessed on a tablet or other mobile device, allowing library staff to assist patrons away from the traditional service desk.

“North Country library staff will be able to meet users where they are, whether that’s in the library building or at an outreach event like a farmers market or fair,” says NCLS Youth Services and Outreach Consultant Katie St. Laurent, adding, “I think you’ll see libraries really taking advantage of this feature, especially during Library Card Signup Month in September.”

NCLS Executive Director Paulette Roes says, “Upgrading our system is a huge undertaking that has not only involved migrating library data and ensuring compatibility with other online resources, but also training over 300 library staff across four counties. This investment of time, talent, and technology reflects our commitment to providing the best possible library service to our North Country communities.”
