Next JCC Home-Based Childcare Program Begins March 28, 2023

Jefferson Community College (JCC) home-based childcare program model continues to lead the way in bridging the gap for childcare providers in the North Country. The next program for those interested in starting a home-based childcare business begins with a mandatory kick-off meeting on JCC’s campus in Watertown on March 28, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Room 3-117, Dulles (Building 3). This program, generously supported by Jefferson County Local Development Corporation, assists parents entering the job market with safe, affordable, high-quality childcare.

Program participants will receive assistance to become registered childcare providers in their homes with business and education training and assistance with the state registration and licensing processes. Full program details are available on the College’s website, www.sunyjefferson.edu.

JCC’s pilot for the Home-Based Childcare Business training program began in June 2021, serving 20 residents from Jefferson and Lewis counties. Since then, the College developed online components on Coursera (an online education provider), reaching over 3,900 students using this innovative course delivery method. The program at JCC has become a model for other communities, including a recent partnership between JCC, Oswego County, Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County, the Small Business Development Center and Oswego County Workforce New York, which launched a similar training program in February 2023.

Training is free and made available on JCC’s campus and online. Child care stipends are available for participants. Upon successful completion, participants will be prepared to start their own home-based childcare business in as-little-as four months!

Visit the College’s website to learn more about JCC’s home-based childcare program, www.sunyjefferson.edu, or call Workforce Development at 315-786-2233.
