CROGHAN LIONS TO HONOR 2023 CITIZENS OF THE YEAR

Timeline

Description automatically generatedThe Croghan Lions Club is proud to announce that Linda Brouty-Baxter and Katelyn Adams have been selected as their 2023 “Citizens of the Year”. Both were chosen for demonstrating the Lions Club International motto, “We Serve”.

Linda Brouty-Baxter learned at a very early age from her giving mother, how to work tirelessly helping others and reaching far into the community with acts of kindness. She helped with Parish Relations and when someone was needed to take over, Linda and her sister stepped up. In 2015, they changed the name to “Caring Friends of the Community.” Throughout the years, the group has given money and gift cards to people with illness or who have suffered an accident or fire.

Linda has been a very appreciated part of the Croghan Fire Auxiliary for about 20 years. She has worked at numerous funerals in a leadership role, and even did funeral meals for people in their homes. She was an incredible creator of masks and organizer of people to make masks during the pandemic. Linda has worked at the Jerden Falls yearly tour nearly every year since 2007. She has helped with the MCC Meat Canner process at Maple Ridge and helped tie quilts for that event.

Linda has helped at many events by leading or organizing people to help after she defines the task that needs to be accomplished. The Lions Club motto “We Serve” certainly shines through in Linda Baxter as a kind and compassionate “Adult Citizen of the Year.”

Katelyn Adams is a leader to her peers by demonstrating leadership skills at her school and her community. She has volunteered to head the Student Council Fundraisers each year which includes the canned food drive for the American Legion. For several years she has given her time to the Big Brothers / Big Sisters program. She assists with SADD to promote and sponsor the After-Prom gathering at school instead of having students attend parties. Katelyn joined “Operation Snow Storm” which is a program to collect winter clothing for children.

Katelyn is consistently on the High Honor Roll and is pursuing college level classes at JCC. She is her class Valedictorian. She sings in Senior Chorus and Choraleers and is a strong presence in Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and got a School Pep Band going. She also serves as secretary of her class, and is treasurer of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Youth Advisory Council. While balancing her many activities, she has been an active presence in sports programs. These are the high standards Katelyn has set for herself. The Lions Motto "We Serve" certainly shines through in Katelyn Adams' character as a responsible "Student Citizen of the year."
