State of Emergency Declared in Jefferson County with TRAVEL BAN in Place

Published: December 24, 2022 at 08:30 a.m.    Updated: December 25, 2022 at 04:45 p.m.

By: Notice from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office

***UPDATE*** 4:30pm 12/25/22:

Jefferson County is still under a state of emergency.

The travel ban is still in effect, for ALL of Jefferson County.

Essential personnel have been, and continue to be, stretched thin.

Motorists have been, and continue to be, stranded in their vehicles for many hours before being rescued and moved to warming shelters. There are abandoned vehicles in the ditches that have been stuck in excess of 36 hours, and they are going nowhere fast. This is NOT the time to venture out.

JCSO has deployed snowmobiles to assist those who are stranded in their vehicles and we have doubled the number of patrols on the road. Still, it is not enough, and response times are incredibly slow right now.

We realize some parts of the county are in better condition than others, but don't be fooled--you won't have to travel far to encounter trouble.

With all of that in mind, STAY HOME!

Public Information Officer
